Woogaroo Forest is still standing. We want to keep it that way.
Around 450 hectares of native forest remain at Springfield, in one of the fastest-growing parts of South-East Queensland. More than 1,000 species have been recorded across this remarkable forest.
Woogaroo is home to Endangered koalas and remnants of the Critically Endangered Lowland Rainforest of Subtropical Australia. Its forests also provide potential habitat for some of Australia's most threatened birds, including the Critically Endangered Swift Parrot and Regent Honeyeater.
And they are only part of the story. Powerful owls, gliders, platypus, Vulnerable grey-headed flying-foxes and countless other species depend on this landscape.
But significant areas of Woogaroo Forest are threatened by development.
Every time we lose mature native forest, we lose more than trees. We lose hollows that can take generations to form. We lose feeding and breeding habitat. We break the corridors wildlife use to move through the landscape.
At a time when our native wildlife is already disappearing, we cannot keep destroying the habitat it needs to survive.
Woogaroo Forest cannot simply be cleared and recreated somewhere else. Once this mature habitat is gone, much of what makes it valuable is gone with it.
People are standing up for this forest.
More than 21,500 people have signed our community petition.
More than 1,600 public submissions were made during the formal assessment process.
More than 300 experts from 11 countries signed our Expert Open Letter calling for the forest's ecological values to be taken seriously.
Now we need the resources to keep fighting.
