Protect Curly Sedge Creek: a stronghold for a precious species
We’re calling on our community to help raise $40,000 by June 30th to protect a unique ecological treasure: Curly Sedge Creek in Melbourne’s north.
At this significant landscape in the heart of galgi ngarrk (formerly Craigieburn Grassland Conservation Reserve), the nationally endangered Curly Sedge is holding on – this is its only stronghold in Melbourne.
But it’s at risk.
Invasive weeds are threatening to overwhelm the grasslands around the creek – smothering not just Curly Sedge, but other important native plants like Matted Flax-lily and Brackish Plains Buttercup.
Without targeted care, we risk losing not only these threatened plants, but many beloved species whose existence depends on the creek’s health – including Growling Grass Frogs, Golden Sun Moths and Latham’s Snipe.
With decades of experience managing remnant vegetation, Merri Creek Management Committee is ideally placed to lead this important work – but we can only do it with your support.
