Myanmar Earthquake Appeal
On the 28th of March, a devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck the Mandalay region of Myanmar, causing widespread destruction. The effects have been particularly crushing in Mandalay City, where the Salesians have a house for 60 street children. The Salesian Community in Mandalay are responding swiftly to provide aid to those in urgent need. The Salesian community buildings, including the children's home and classrooms, suffered extensive damage and are now declared unsafe, the children and staff have been forced to sleep in the adjacent fields. The local Salesian team, along with the community, is struggling to meet the overwhelming needs of the affected people, however they continue to serve the most vulnerable, providing immediate assistance to displaced families by offering food, water, and essential supplies such as mosquito nets, tarpaulins, and bedding.
The situation in Myanmar is compounded by political instability, which has made humanitarian aid, transportation, and communication particularly difficult. Nevertheless, the Salesians remain unwavering in their mission to offer hope and practical support to those suffering in the aftermath of this disaster. Every dollar you donate will be matched from our Mission in Action Fund. 100% tax deductible.
You may assist by donating to the Myanmar Earthquake Appeal and St John Bosco Parish will GIFT MATCH each dollar donated by parishioners.
How we Help?
We have been a Salesian Parish since we were established in January 1951. It is through gratitude to the Salesians for helping to build our parish community, that we are now in a position to help the growth of other Salesian Parishes and Projects. We raise funds to help assist Salesian Projects in developing countries to provide aid and assistance to the most marginalised.
The Salesians of Don Bosco support the vocational teaching of underprivileged young women, men, boys and girls, in order that they find employment and become self-sufficient contributing members of their nation.
Salesian works include schools (academic, technical, agricultural), school luncheon programs, orphanages, workshops for unemployed youth, emergency programs, community help groups, accommodation for street children, running dispensaries and providing assistance to the disadvantaged.
With a presence in most countries of the developing world, the Salesians or Don Bosco are well placed to make responses that are quick, compassionate and generous to those in need during emergencies such as natural disasters, war or violence.
