Dear Friends and Devotees,

On February 17, 2024, a devastating fire caused by an electrical fault ravaged the See Yup Temple and its precious artifacts. This spiritual sanctuary, steeped in over 170 years of history, now urgently needs our collective support for its reconstruction and restoration.

Since its establishment, the See Yup Temple has served as an important place of faith for the Chinese community in Australia, meticulously maintained by the Melbourne See Yup Society. In 1964, it was recognized by the National Trust (Victoria) for its significant historical and cultural value, and in 1974, it was among the first buildings listed on the Victorian Heritage Register. The National Trust of Australia (Victoria) assisted with major fundraising in the 1970s and is again partnering with us to facilitate this crucial restoration.

The fire severely damaged the main temple building and approximately 200 artifacts, many of which were harmed by intense heat, flames, and smoke. We require extensive restoration work to secure the temple's structure and ensure its longevity, as well as specialized repairs for the damaged artifacts, including the revered Guan Yu statues. These artifacts are not only historical witnesses but also hold deep spiritual significance for generations of Chinese people. Their restoration and return to their rightful place depend on the support of every generous individual.

Importantly, donations made to the See Yup Temple through the National Trust of Australia (Victoria) are tax-deductible. Your contribution will directly support the temple's restoration and the preservation of its artifacts – from reinforcing beams and repairing the roof to the meticulous restoration of damaged items. Your generosity reflects your commitment to cultural preservation.

For over 170 years, the See Yup Temple has witnessed countless stories and holds profound emotional and historical significance. Let us unite our efforts to safeguard this precious heritage, restoring the temple to its former glory and returning the Guan Yu statues to their place of honor in the main hall. Your support will illuminate this cultural landmark!
