Hi all,
Flat Out, Sisters Inside, the National Network of Incarcerated & Formerly Incarcerated Women & Girls and Homes not Prisons are all raising funds to support Aunty Vickie Roach - proud Yuin woman and respected elder in the movement for care not punishment in Australia.
A huge thanks to everyone who has contributed so far – and especially to the regular donors. Together we have maintained Aunt’s private rental for over two years.
Earlier this year we thought we had a great housing option Aunt could afford on her pension but sadly it fell through at the last minute. Since then, we have renewed her Aboriginal Housing application and hope she will receive an offer very soon.
So, we need to maintain Aunt’s private rental a bit longer but the funds we have raised here are exhausted. We need to raise more funds so we can continue to supplement Aunt’s rent by $1300 a month for (hopefully) just a few more months.
If you have worked with Aunty Vickie, read her work or heard her speak you will understand how important it is that we care for her now.
You can hear Aunty Vickie talk about her life and work here:
